Intro to Plesk

This article will be a intro to all new and experienced Plesk users. If you are using our Site Migration service, the steps below are usually included in the migration process, but feel free to use them to make sure everything is configured to your liking.

 

Configuring Hostname

To begin you will want to first login to your “Parallels Plesk Panel”.

Next you will want to click on “Tools & Settings” from the left side menu under ”Server Management”.

Under “General Settings” select “Server Settings”.

After changing the hostname in the “Full hostname” field click “OK” to finish the change.

 

Configuring Name Servers

After you have added your domain name to your Plesk server and created or uploaded content the next step is updating your DNS to point to your Plesk server.

Please Note: When changing DNS your site may become unavailable due to propagation. Average down time is around 24-48 hours but can take up to 72 hours to complete in some cases.

 

Creating Packages

Inside Plesk control panel you have the ability to setup re-seller packages that limit the resources your customers can use by creating what Plesk calls a Service Plan. You can find more extensive information about creating packages here.

 

Setting the Server’s Shared IP

To begin you will want to first login to your “Parallels Plesk Panel”.

Next you will want to click on “Tools & Settings” from the left side menu under ”Server Managment”.

 Under “Tools & Resources” select “IP Addresses”.

Within “IP address management” you will be able to view the IP addresses you have. Select which IP address you would like to change.

From here you can switch from “Dedicated” to “Shared”. Please note this must be done before adding sites/accounts.

 

Creating Accounts
