Granting Privileges to an Existing Database User

Often we have designers and programmers that need access to more then one database and it can become confusing for each database to have a different username and password. Within your control panel you have the ability to grant privileges to any existing database user in your account.

How to grant privileges to an existing Database user

  • Once you are logged into your hosting control panel click in the “Databases” row click on the icon labeled “MySQL Server”. If your not sure how to log into your hosting control panel please visit the article here.add-mysql-user-001
  • On the MySQL Server screen click on the icon labeled “EDIT” within the row of the database you wish to add the user to.add-mysql-user-002
  • Within the MySQL database management window look for the row labeled “Database users”.  You will see the list of users currently able to access the database. To add a user click on the “ADD” icon.add-mysql-user-003
  • Scroll down to the second section labeled “Granting privileges to an existing user on the…”. Choose the username that you want to gain access to the database you are editing from the drop down box.add-mysql-user-004
  • After you have selected the database user select the privileges needed for that specific user. If your designers are needing to work with any Content Management System (WordPress, Joomla, etc.) they will usually need “DBA” permissions.add-mysql-user-005
  • After you have selected the correct database username and the specific role needed by the user click on the “Grant” to save the changes.add-mysql-user-006
